About Us

Where it all began:
The wall covering in my room was the inspiration for Pigamoose.

The sixties were a decade of change and firsts. For my family — the Barnett family of Brooklyn, New York – one big change was the birth in 1967 of their son (that would be me – Alex Barnett).

Like so many first-time parents, my mom wanted to give me something special, something that would be unique, something that — in keeping with the times — would be different. So she decided to make me a stuffed animal with her own hands. Using fabric matching that on the wall in my room, she began the creation process.

The result was special alright. It was plaid. It was almost three dimensional. It looked to be part pig and part moose. It was … Pigamoose.

Now some would say that such a creature was an oddball. But not my parents and me. We realized that different is good, different is fun, and different when coupled with love is the best of all. And, so, it was. Pigamoose was my constant companion. I loved him, as did my mom, my dad, my little sister (who arrived several years later) and the family dog (who sometimes jumped on my bed and curled up with Pigamoose to take a nap). And, even though, like many young children, I was given a number of stuffed animals by friends and family, Pigamoose was my favorite because Pigamoose was first, Pigamoose was unique and Pigamoose was made with love.

Well, it’s more than forty years later, and I am grown up. But Pigamoose still is my favorite (although we don’t get to run around the house together as much as we used to). And now, my wife, my family and I want to share Pigamoose with the world. Because every little girl and boy should have a Pigamoose – fun, unique and made with love.

Sincerely,

Alex Barnett, Camille Barnett, the Barnett Family and, of course, Pigamoose!
